Winning two matches against unranked teams last week just isn't that impressive to voters in this week's coaches poll.
The Ball State University men's volleyball team receieved fewer votes and remained outside the newest top 15 coaches poll released Monday night.
The Cardinals (4-1, 1-1 Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association) received eight votes - 10 fewer votes than in last week's poll - and are listed at No. 17. After being ranked No. 13 and losing its season opener to drop from the rankings, Ball State is on a four-match winning streak, including home wins against Grand Canyon University and Carthage College.
Along with Ball State, the final three teams in the coaches poll won all their matches last week and did not move in the rankings.
Ohio State University remains the highest ranked MIVA team at No. 13 following two conference wins against Grand Canyon, and Lewis University stayed at No. 14 after going to 2-0 at the Golden Dome Classic during the weekend.
In addition, St. Francis University won its three matches last week and remained at No. 15.
This is the second consecutive week Ball State has been outside of the top 15. It is also the second time in the last two years that Ball State has failed to be ranked in consecutive weeks.
The Cardinals will play non-conference home matches against unranked George Mason University on Friday and Rutgers-Newark University before the coaches poll is released next week.
