The Ball State University men's volleyball team's stint in the top 15 coaches poll was short lived.
After being swept in its season opener against unranked Loyola University last week, Ball State dropped from its No. 13 ranking and out of the newest coaches poll released Monday.
The Cardinals (2-1, 0-1 Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association) received 18 votes - 32 fewer votes than in last week's poll.
The coaches poll is voted upon by 16 coaches, including Ball State coach Joel Walton. The Cardinals started the preseason poll at No. 11 and moved down two spots to No. 13 in the week one poll, despite not having played their season opener.
Following the season opening loss, Ball State defeated Carthage College and the Milwaukee School of Engineering - both Division III teams - during the weekend.
Two MIVA teams were ranked in this week's poll. Ohio State University remains the highest ranked MIVA team but dropped two spots to No. 13 following a non-conference loss to No. 15 St. Francis University during the weekend. In addition, Lewis University moved up one spot to No. 14 with a season-opening win against the Milwaukee School of Engineering on Friday.
With its victory against Ball State, Loyola received 21 votes - 16 more votes than the previous week.
Ball State will play two matches before the next coaches poll is released, including a conference match and its home opener against Grand Canyon University on Thursday at Worthen Arena.
