The Homecoming Steering Committee is now accepting applications for next school year.
Applications can be accessed from the Ball State University Web site by clicking the Homecoming tab on the Alumni Association Web page. Applicants are asked to submit applications to the Alumni Association, located on the second floor of the Alumni Center, by 4 p.m on Feb. 3.
Senior Sam Adamczewski, steering committee general chairman, said anyone may apply for general chairmann, not just current members.
"I'm very honored to have been the general chairman," she said. "It's a big responsibility. You have to be organized, flexible, willing to work with all kinds of people and ready to answer phone calls at all hours."
Senior Brandon Schenk, special events chairman, considers his term with the steering committee "a very professional experience."
"It's an opportunity to create something new for Ball State's traditional Homecoming experience," he said.
Schenk said working with the steering committee allows students to collaborate with peers, faculty and alumni. He said the committee is looking for students who are motivated and can bring something new to the table. Besides upperclassmen, freshmen, sophomores and even graduate students are encouraged to apply, he said.
Sophomore Paula Truex, special events chairwoman, encourages underclassmen to get involved with the steering committee.
"I think it's when everyone should apply," she said. "I've made a lot of friends through the steering committee with people who have the same interest as me."
Interviews for the general chairman will be Feb. 10 and committee interviews will be Feb. 17 and 18 in the Alumni Center's conference room 3.
The first steering committee meeting will be in March and the Homecoming theme will be determined a few weeks after the first meeting, Schenk said.
