Each week, The Daily News' sports crew picks its PPQ - the play, player and quote of the week.
This week's best:
Player of the Week
Terrence Watson, men's basketball: The senior forward had a career day in Ball State's 71-43 win over Toledo on Sunday. Watson notched his second career double-double with a career-best 17 points and 11 rebounds. His 13 points and seven rebounds in the first half set the tone for the Cardinals' blowout win.
Play of the Week
Emily Karwoski, women's swimming and diving: Karwoski was critical to Ball State's 154-146 come-from-behind win at Eastern Illinois on Saturday. Karwoski, the MAC Swimmer of the Week, had three first-place finishes, but none as important as her win in the 200 individual medley. With Ball State trailing, her 2:11.50 pace put the Cardinals up for good.
Quote of the Week
'I think that it all started in practice. My teammate, John Green, got me so prepared for [Barnett] because he was throwing up shots and they were going in, and I was like, 'Oh my gosh, are you serious? I hope Barnett's not going to be like this.' - Sophomore guard Pierre Sneed on preparing to guard Toledo's leading scorer, Jake Barnett
Fan Choice
Billy Ebel, men's volleyball: With an impressive 80 votes and 66 percent of the vote, Ebel won this week's Fan Choice poll over women's basketball forward Emily Maggert (16 votes, 13%). Ebel was named the MIVA Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday as he averaged 3.8 digs per set as Ball State went 2-1 in its opening weekend.
