'Careless smoking' causes scare at YWCA

Muncie Fire Department was called to the YWCA, 310 E. Charles St. Thursday night after it was alerted of smoke throughout the building.

Ray Richards, captain of the Muncie Fire Department, said the fire was due to "careless smoking."

Several crews searched all floors of the building including the basement where they found discarded smoking materials. The air handling system carried the smoke through the building alerting employees of an apparent fire.

YWCA employees evacuated the building before the fire department arrived and no one was injured. Firefighters secured the building by 6:40 p.m.
