Ball State approves new bachelor degree

Ball State University's Board of Trustees agreed to create a bachelor of arts and science program for construction management. It also will revise the doctor of education in science degree, making it a Ph.D. in environmental science.

According to a press release, the construction management degree will be offered through the College of Applied Sciences and Technology. This makes a previous option within the industrial technology major into its own major.

Provost Terry King said in the press release that separating the two will bring more recognition to the accomplishments of the construction management program and will give the university more student recruitment in the program.

The advancement of the doctor of education in science degree will help Ball State support Indiana's economic development initiatives in the environmental sciences, King said in the press release. It's expected to help the university attract external research funding as well.

The board agreed to push the proposals to the Indiana Commission for Higher Education for approval.
