Students have the opportunity help save lives this week at the Angels for Life Blood Drive.
Drive organizer Kim Hiatt said the event will give Ball State University students the opportunity to give back. She said donating blood can be important for a couple of reasons.
'Donating blood is a lifesaving act of kindness that students can easily do and it doesn't cost them a dime,' Hiatt said.
The drive comes to Ball State's campus about twice a semester and once in the summer, she said.
Local businesses will provide free pizza certificates, tans, haircuts, chocolate and cookies for students who donate. Free T-shirts also will be given to each donor, and students will have a chance to win door prizes such as Colt's items, gas cards and movie passes.
Hiatt said the goal is to get 550 units of blood this time, which is equivalent to 700 donors. At the last two drives, more than 450 units of blood were donated each time, which set a record. Hiatt also said that at a university with such a large and young population as Ball State, she expects to get just as much donated.
'With such a young population, there are less health deferrals, so we should really be able to get more than that. Even if someone can't donate, they can ask a friend to go and donate on their behalf,' Hiatt said.
Students can donate Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Pruis Hall.
