Rhythms Dance Troupe expresses "new attitude"

Ball State University students experienced different attitudes expressed through dance Sunday in the Ball Gymnasium.

The Rhythms Dance Troupe presented its first fall show. Called "A New Attitude," the group performed dances that portrayed different attitudes, including happiness, frustration and hope.

Kerome Bennett, vice president of the Rhythms Dance Troupe, said she was happy with the performance of the dancers.

"It was a great show," she said. "I was really impressed."

The Rhythms Dance Troupe is a campus organization that gives students opportunities to perform. It is open to all majors, which Bennett said is a strength of the group because it allows for the perspectives of group members to be more distinct.

"It's important because the Rhythms Dance Troupe provides non-dance majors or minors a chance to dance and perform in front of an audience," she said.

Bennett has been involved with the program for four years at Ball State. She said the dancers have practiced hard for this performance. They have two-hour practices twice a week, and during the week leading up to a performance they practiced everyday.

Junior elementary education major Kyla Weber is enjoying her first year with the dance troupe.

"It's really awesome," she said. "I actually got to perform and I haven't gotten the opportunity to perform since high school."

Weber added that this and other student-run events at Ball State are good to get involved with.

"I think it's important to support each other and to see everybody's different abilities and passions," she said.

The money raised from the dance showcase entrance fee will be sent to a local church to help a family in need.

The Rhythms Dance Troupe will have their next show during the Spring Semester.
