Health Center has more vaccines available

Health Center Medical Director Kent Bullis believes 8,000 H1N1 vaccinations is plenty for Ball State University this winter season.

"As hard as we've tried to get students in for the vaccine, I'm surprised how few students have taken advantage of it," he said.

Bullis said between 150 and 200 free vaccines were given at the Atrium on Tuesday.
Before Tuesday 771 vaccines had been given, and there are about 7,700 still available, Bullis said.

Vaccines will be offered at the Atrium during lunch time on Wednesday and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.

Any student under the age of 25 is eligible for an H1N1 vaccination, Bullis said.

Students with a weak immune system, who are pregnant, have asthma or are in generally poor health will receive the injectible vaccine. Students who are in generally good health will be given the nasal vaccination, which offers a weakened form of the virus, also called a live attenuated vaccine.

Bullis said the majority of the vaccines still available are the injectible version.
