Changes come to Indiana State Museum

Beginning Jan. 4, 2010, the Indiana State Museum will close its galleries and public spaces on Mondays.

Interim director of the museum Kathleen McLary said the changes will bring the Indiana State Museum in alignment with other museums and cultural institutions of Indiana that close on Mondays. She said it will also give the museum time for specialized cleaning and adjustments.

The exceptions for next year's closing days are Martin Luther King day, NCAA Final Four men's basketball championship game day, Labor day and all Mondays from Thanksgiving through the end of the year.

The museum's administrative staff will continue to work on Mondays and the guest services telephone reservation center will continue to operate.

Other Indianapolis venues that close on Mondays include the Children's Museum of Indianapolis, the Indianapolis Art Museum and the NCAA hall of champions. Some art museums that close on Mondays are Indiana University and Notre Dame, the Muncie Children's Museum and the Cincinnati, Cleveland and Fort Wayne museums.
