Student film receives high honors

"My Name is Jerry," the first professionally produced commercial film to be funded by Ball State University, took top honors at the International Filmmaker Festival held Oct. 26-29 in Kent, England.

The film was among more than 400 entries from 27 countries and won Best Picture, Best Supporting Actress (Catherine Hicks) and Best Soundtrack (Rick DiGiallonardo), according to the Filmmakers Festival Web site.

Morgan Mead was also nominated for Best Director, and Doug Jones, a 1982 Ball State University graduate noted for his role in "Hellboy," was nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role.

The movie was filmed in the summer of 2008 with the help of Ball State students through a collaborative effort from the College of Fine Arts, the Institute for Digital Entertainment and Education and alumnus and writer/director Morgan Mead's Clothespin Productions. The final version of the script was written by alumnus David Hamilton.

Since its sold out debut screening in May, "Jerry" has also won Best Comedy at the Route 66 Festival, was shown at the Tacoma festival and has been accepted to several others, including the Heartland Film Festival in Indianapolis earlier in October.
