KALAMAZOO, Mich. – MiQuale Lewis scored his first touchdown in a month and Ball State University took a 13-10 lead into halftime at Western Michigan University.
After Ian McGarvey kicked two field goals in the first quarter, Lewis ran for a three-yard score to open the second quarter. At the time, it gave the Cardinals a 13-point lead, their largest of the season.
Western Michigan responded with 10 unanswered points, beginning with a 29-yard field goal from John Potter with 4:33 remaining in the half. With 28 seconds left in the half, running back Brandon West punched the ball in from the one-yard line.
Linebacker Davyd Jones suffered an apparent left-leg injury on a Broncos' punt return that was called back for a block in the back. Jones was helped off the field and did not return.
During the second quarter, Western Michigan quarterback Tim Hiller crossed the 3,000 yard passing mark for the third consecutive year. He is just the fourth player to do so in the Mid-American Conference, joining Ben Roethlisberger, Chad Pennington and Byron Leftwich.
