The number of reported alcohol violations decreased on Ball State University's campus during the weekend following Alcohol Awareness Week.
Two students were arrested during Fall Break this year and no citations were issued, Gene Burton, director of public safety, said. During the previous weekend, six citations and seven arrests were reported.
But Steven Jennings, a patrolman for the University Police Department, said he doesn't think the lower numbers have much to do with Alcohol Awareness Week.
"Most students leave so [the lack of arrests] are more due to a lack of students than Alcohol Awareness," he said.
About 140 students were arrested on Ball State's campus during 2007, according to the university police department's most recent crime statistics. Other disciplinary actions were filed against more than 720 students on campus during the same year.
Organizers at Ball State provided students with information about the dangers of drinking as a part of last week's awareness program.
Sophomore Whitney Bowman said she didn't think the week of events influenced students' drinking habits.
"I don't think [the program] does as much as it could," she said. "Giving out free pizza doesn't affect how much people drink during Fall Break."
Bowman also said she thinks Alcohol Awareness Week would be more effective if it took place before Homecoming Week or Spring Break.
"It probably helps people be more cautious, maybe not control their drinking, but make them less rowdy," she said.
