Ball State University has started the Northwestern Invitational with some highs and lows. Out of the 10 singles matches, Ball State has won four, including sophomore Cliff Morrison in flight A. Junior Shaun Bussert with freshmen Dalton Albertin and Austin Sansone won their first round matches as well. Albertin and Sansone defeated players from the Mid-American Conference rival University of Toledo
Morrison defeated Junior Andrew McCarthy from Northwestern University 6-4, 6-4. Bussert won his match against Guliherme Marsiglia form Drake University in a tie breaker 6-3, 3-6, 10-3.
The other six Cardinals lost in the first round with four coming in straight sets. Junior Eduardo Pavia and freshman Zane Smith lost in a tie-breaker.
Doubles play was stronger as Pavia and Albertin defeated a tandem from Purdue University 8-4. In flight B doubles Ball State won two matches against Toledo and one over the defending MAC Champions Western Michigan University.
