Many people dream of learning how to ballroom dance like the actors in movies or celebrities on television. One such person doesn't simply know how to ballroom dance — she teaches it.
"I have been dancing most of my life, and have been doing ballroom dancing for 11 years," Stacey Poe, a 1991 Ball State University graduate, said.
Poe started off with jazz, ballet and modern dance before moving on to ballroom.
After attending Ball State as a dance major, Poe moved to Florida for four or five years, then returned home in 1998, she said. It was at that time she began working for Arthur Murray Company for eight years.
Poe said she enjoyed her work with the Murray Company, but opened her own dance studio in Greenfield, Ind. in August 2008.
"My dance studio is Rhythms by Stacey, and I teach ballroom and zumba fitness," she said.
Her studio is located at the Creative Arts and Event Center in Greenfield on the second floor. Poe teaches private and group lessons in ballroom and zumba. She also provides dance lessons for reunions, bachelorette parties, holiday parties and other special events.
Poe is also offering a ballroom dance class on Sunday from 2 to 3 p.m. in Ball Gym. The cost for the class is $7 per person or $10 per couple.
"It will be a combination of mambo and salsa," Poe said. "There will be several basics on how to do salsa."
The exact number of people attending is unknown as of Friday, she said. She encourages people who want to learn to attend.
