Ypsilanti, Mich. – Eastern Michigan University capitalized on Ball State University's numerous miscues in the second quarter to open up a 20-13 lead at halftime.
The Eagles scored 13 points in the second quarter, including a 12-yard touchdown run by Corey Welch. They also had to settle for a 20-yard field goal after a touchdown was called back on review. Ball State held at the half yard line for three plays, forcing coach Ron English to call on Joe Carithers to kick.
Ball State scored for the second time on a long run. MiQuale Lewis broke a 48-yard run with 4:06 left in the quarter to bring the Cardinals back within a touchdown.
Ball State is still without running back Eric Williams, who was injured in the first quarter. He noticeably limped off the field at halftime.
Making his first collegiate start, quarterback Tanner Justice is 1-for-7 for negative seven yards. Lewis leads the Cardinals with 108 yards on 10 carries. Sykes has 84 yards on seven carries.
Kyle McMahon completed five of his 11 passes for 34 yards and a touchdown. Alex Gillett added 52 yards through the air. Dwayne Priest has 53 rushing yards on 13 attempts.
