Flavors of Fall

A fall banquet at Minnetrista this Sunday provides an opportunity to celebrate and sample various foods of the harvest season. The second annual Flavors of Fall event runs from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Sunday, featuring various autumn foodstuffs from some of the area's finest chefs.

"Flavors of Fall is an informative yet exciting event that revolves around cooking using the wonderful foods available this time of year," said Minnetrista Sales and Events Manager Amanda Kavars. "The chefs that we're working with are all members of the American Culinary Association, and they're phenomenal."

Four chefs will prepare different seasonal treats including tomato cabbage soup, apple butter, and a pumpkin-apple combination dessert. Visitors are welcome and encouraged to come observe the chefs working and learn various cooking techniques.  Chefs will also delve into logistical secrets such as how to present their food pleasantly and explain the history behind each of their courses. The best part is everyone gets a meal.

"Normally in demonstrations you only get a sample, but the chefs are actually preparing a full serving for all the guests," Kavars said. "This year's theme is ‘Bountiful Harvest,' so the entrée will be a Fall Vegetable Hash served with lamb sausage."

Flavors of Fall actually started as a spin-off of another signature event, Cooking in the Courtyard, which was the opening evening event for Minnetrista's Garden Fair. Because Cooking in the Courtyard takes place in the spring and is always a great success, a fall complement was developed to balance out the year, Kavars said. Generally, events on Friday or Saturday nights can bring in up to sixty people, but Flavors of Fall takes place on a Sunday to construct a relaxed, Sunday brunch atmosphere. A lighter crowd of around thirty to forty is expected, Kavars said. Admission is $20.
