FIELD HOCKEY: Ball State's Blaum garners first career MAC Defensive Player of the Week award

The junior's defensive save against Missouri State solidified a win for the Cardinals

For her heroics in the final seconds of the Ball State University field hockey team's 4-3 conference win over Missouri State University on Saturday, junior defender Elizabeth Blaum on Tuesday notched her first career Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week award.

Blaum made a defensive save - her second of the season - in the final seconds to secure the MAC victory over Missouri State. The win was the first conference victory of the season for the Cardinals (3-8, 1-3 MAC), snapping an eight-game losing streak in the process.

Saturday was not the first time in Blaum's career that she pulled out a clutch play against Missouri State. Last season, her game-winning goal off a penalty corner against the Bears ended Ball State's record 11-game losing skid. Blaum and the Cardinals return to MAC action this weekend with two home games as they match up with Ohio University at 1 p.m. on Saturday and Kent State University at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
