FIELD HOCKEY: Ball State regains confidence entering today game vs. Ohio

Coming off a much needed victory, the Ball State University field hockey team looks to get to .500 in the Mid-American Conference play this weekend.

Ball State (3-8, 1-3 MAC) will play home games against Ohio University at 1 p.m. Saturday and Kent State University on Sunday.

After picking up its first MAC conference win in a three-goal comeback against Missouri State University last weekend, coach Annette Payne said she enforced the fact to her team that it must keep the momentum going through the weekend.

At practice the focus was strictly on how to beat Ohio, she said.

"We had a great week of practice," Payne said. "We talked about the adjustments we needed to make and how we are going to build on where we are going."

To come out this weekend with two wins, Payne said the team needs to play similar to how it did in the second half against Missouri State. Trailing 3-0, the Cardinals scored four goals in the final 30 minutes to break their eight-game losing streak.

"We need to get things right from the start, the energy we have is important," Payne said.

Ohio enters the game 3-7 (1-2 MAC), and Kent State is 6-5 (3-0 MAC).

Payne said the confidence is high for the team after its game against Missouri State.

"We definitely think that was a great win for us as a program and more so than anything it showed our character. That was the biggest thing that we gained," Payne said. "The change in the momentum was huge for us and to keep that momentum is important."
