English education students to sell desserts, cider at bake sale

Fourteen Ball State University English education students are having a bake sale on the first floor of Robert Bell Building today and Friday.

Students can buy 50-cent homemade cookies, brownies, puppy chow and hot apple cider at the sale, which will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. near the inQsit computer lab.

"It'll be cheaper than any other food on campus and probably taste a lot better too," senior Brittany Hommerding, president of the English Education Club, said.

Money raised at the bake sale will help fund the students' weekend-long trip to the National Conference of Teachers of English in Philadelphia, Hommerding said.

The conference will provide many opportunities for valuable professional development and help the students learn more about their future careers as English/language Arts teachers.

"We're not sure if we'll raise enough to totally eliminate the cost, but whatever money we do make we can be put towards food or the hotel or registration costs," she said.

Each student will have to pay about $160 for registration and hotel costs, Hommerding said. Food costs are unknown.
