After getting only short work in last week's weather-shortened Ohio Invitational, the Ball State University cross country team gets back to business as they travel north for the Notre Dame Invitational today.
"We're trying to get rid of injuries and back to full strength to be ready for [today]," senior Sarah Kehe said.
One addition to the lineup this week will be senior Ali Bishel. She returns to action after missing last week's meet due to academic obligations. Bishel is the Cardinals top finisher, coming in first place in both meets she has competed in.
"Ali looks strong and I am excited to see her prospects against tough competition this week," coach Randy Heisler said.
Ball State will match up against 22 other teams in the women's gold race this Friday, including Mid-American Conference opponent Eastern Michigan University.
With the MAC Conference Championships looming, Kehe knows this is an important time for the team.
"There aren't a ton of meets during the season, so I try and tell the ladies to make every one important," Kehe said. "We need to come out ready each week and we have to perform."
Heisler also is preaching the growing importance of each meet. With the MAC Championship only four weeks away, he expects improvement from his team.
"We are not looking to win, but we want individuals to get personal records on a fast course against good competition," Heisler said. "The MAC is four weeks out and we need to start making a push."
