Burris classes canceled because of "influenza-like" symptoms

Classes at Burris Laboratory School have been canceled for the rest of the week after more than 20 percent of students were absent Tuesday because of influenza-like symptoms.

Ball State University officials decided to cancel classes after consulting with the Delaware County Health Department, according to a press release.

Burris is a K-12 school located on University Ave.

Classes will resume next Monday, after an extended weekend for Fall Break. Officials hope keeping students out of class Wednesday and Thursday will help slow the spread of illnesses and give Burris staff enough time to thoroughly clean the building, according to the press release.

Athletic events that are already scheduled at Ball Gymnasium during this time will still take place, the release said.
