"My Name is Jerry," the first professionally produced commercial film to be funded by the university, is being featured in Indianapolis' week-long Heartland Film Festival.
The movie was made in the summer of 2008 through collaboration between the College of Fine Arts, the Institute for Digital Entertainment and Education and alumnus and writer/director Morgan Mead's Clothespin Productions. The final version of the script was written by alumnus David Hamilton.
The film stars "Hellboy's" Doug Jones, a 1982 graduate of Ball State University, and "That 70's Show's" Don Stark, and is a comedic drama filmed in Muncie with the help of Ball State students. In the festival circuit this past year, it has received many awards, including Best Comedy at the Route 66 Film Festival.
"The turnouts have been great," Hamilton said. "Really spectacular."
Hamilton, who lives in Texas, was unable to attend many of the festivals that "Jerry" was entered in, but attended the Saturday night screening at the AMC Theater in Indianapolis.
Katlyn Carlson and Levi Holloway, two of the actors involved with "Jerry," and a few Ball State student crew members were also at the screening.
Holloway said he still found it difficult to remove himself from the role while watching it on the big screen.
"I kind of go crazy [watching the movie]. I find myself staring at my ears throughout the whole thing," Holloway said.
Carlson, however, said it was easy to watch her role as Jerry's love interest, Jordan.
"I can really relate to Jordan," Carlson said. "Plus we had such an awesome crew. I had a great time."
Casiana Warfield, who was in the audience at the "Jerry" screening, said that she especially enjoyed the movie's soundtrack and the editing.
"The movie's music was really good, especially for a small film. The director also picked really good actors," Warfield said.
Warfield also attended last year's festival and said that "Jerry" was the first screening she had seen from this year's festival.
