Ball State University's Homecoming theme of the "Best Week Ever" continues tonight with the week's most popular event, Air Jam.
The 22nd annual Air Jam, a lip-syncing and dance competition, will be held at 9 p.m. tonight in John R. Emens Auditorium. Twenty acts participating in three categories are scheduled to perform.
Abby Mills, Homecoming Steering Committee chairwoman for Air Jam, said the last of approximately 3,000 tickets were purchased at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, selling out the event.
Freshman telecommunications major Ashley Reed said she is also looking forward to attending the event.
"I am really excited to see some of my friends perform," she said.
But senior Jimmy Lauer, whose major is undecided, said he didn't want to spend $5 for a ticket.
"Cash money is beer money," he said.
Sophomore speech pathology major Anne Anthony said she would have liked to go, but was not aware that tickets would sell out so quickly.
Student performers from greek organizations, residence halls and independent groups will perform to preselected songs. Among the student groups to take the stage are "Trendz of Essence," University Singers, "C-4" and the Latino Student Union.
"We are really pumped," Michael Rivera, president of the Latino Student Union, said about his group's participation in the event.
Last year, Rivera said that the group focused more on traditional salsa and Latin dance. This year, however, Rivera said that the group would be playing more contemporary music such as songs by Pitbull and LMFAO.
Mills said students can also look forward to numerous performances of Michael Jackson's "Beat it," the Black Eyed Peas' "I Gotta Feeling" and Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time."
Groups will be competing to win the Category Winner, Overall Winner and Crowd Favorite titles. Extra points will be awarded to teams with costumes and routines related to the Homecoming theme.
The student Homecoming king and queen will also be crowned. The king and queen will ride on the Royalty Float in Saturday's Homecoming Parade.
