'The Apprentice' winner to speak at Ball State tonight

Bill Rancic, entrepreneur and winner of the first season of the NBC show "The Apprentice," will be at Ball State University on Tuesday to talk to students about 'How to Use Challenging Times to Your Advantage.'

Rancic said that making good business decisions in college is vital for a student's future.

"What they [college students] do now is critical," he said. "I'm going to be speaking about three things to survive challenging times, my road to becoming Donald Trump's apprentice and some insights that I've learned from him."

Rancic, who developed a cigar business he started in a 400-square-foot apartment and turned into a multi-million dollar business, says he looks forward to visiting Ball State University.

"I'm excited to come to Muncie," he said. "I love college towns."

Since being on the show in 2004 and getting to return to it as a judge several times, Rancic said he has found TV to be a new business passion.

"TV is a business," Rancic said. "I got to get involved behind the scenes, and being exposed to this world through 'The Apprentice' made me realize there is a lot of money to be made in television if you do it right."

Rancic and his wife Giuliana have started their own production company that airs their Style Network reality show, "Giuliana & Bill." Rancic said that compared to other reality TV shows, theirs will look different.

"It's unique in the way that it shows what a healthy relationship should look like," he said. "So many shows out there have dysfunctional relationships with infidelity, and our show is different."

Rancic also said that between shooting the show and being involved with other business ventures, his time alone with his wife is of high importance.

"When we're together, we just shut things down and we're together," he said. "We definitely order out a lot, and we take little weekend mini-vacations."

Rancic will spend an hour with students from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in Knotts/Edwards in LaFollette Complex. He will have a dinner with a select group of students and staff at 5 p.m. His presentation will follow at 7 p.m. in the ballroom of the L.A. Pittenger Student Center.
