MEN'S TENNIS: Pair of Cardinals named to All-Academic Team

Ball State University men's tennis players Shaun Bussert and Dave Thomas have been named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team, according to Ball State Athletics.

"This is a well-deserved honor for both Shaun and Dave," coach Bill Richards said. "They work very hard on the court and in the classroom and are great examples of true student athletes."

Bussert has posted a 3.68 grade point average in the Honors College and is a two-time recipient of the award. Thomas has a 3.584 GPA while studying finance, and it is his first time being acknowledged by the ITA for his academic successes.

To earn the status of ITA Scholar-Athlete, a student-athlete playing tennis must be a varsity letter winner, have at least a 3.5 on a 4.0 GPA scale for the current year and have been enrolled at the school for at least two semesters.

The men's tennis team starts their season Friday, Sept. 18 at the Milwaukee Classic. The Cardinals host their first tournament, the Ball State Fall Invitational, Friday, Sept. 25 at Cardinal Creek Tennis Center.
