3 Ball State grads to receive Distinguished Alumni Award

Three alumni will receive an award for their achievements since graduating from Ball State University more than 30 years ago.

The Alumni Association announced Thursday that Erwin Mueller, Rodger Neuenschwander and Randall Pond were selected for the 2009 Distinguished Alumni Award.

Mueller is a Ball State professor and the former interim director of the School of Music. The 1954 graduate has been a Ball State faculty member since 1958 and was named a distinguished professor in 1995. Mueller has also received multiple awards during his 41-year teaching career, including being named the Outstanding Administrator of the Year by the Indiana Music Educators Association in 1996 and winning the Lifetime Achievement in Education Award in 2007.

Neuenschwander graduated from Ball State in 1973 as an architecture major and is the president of Thompson, Ventulett, Stainback & Associates, Inc., an architecture firm in Atlanta. As president, Neuenschwander has more than doubled the company's revenue and was named to the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects in 2003.

Pond, a 1977 graduate, is the executive vice president of operations processes and systems at Cisco. In this position for more than five years, Pond oversees the company's corporate affairs, human resources, legal services and information technology.

The three recipients of the Distinguished Alumni Award will be presented their awards during a recognition dinner Oct. 2 at the Alumni Center.
