SOCCER: Ball State forced to move because new building

After nine seasons, the Ball State University soccer team will be moving from the only home field the program has known.

Athletics Director Tom Collins said the soccer team will be moving from the Ball State Soccer Complex to the north end of campus inside the track following the 2009 season.

Collins said he was unaware that there was a glass blowing building being built where the team's practice field is currently located, but was aware that the team was being forced to move.

Associate Athletics Director Pat Quinn, who is in charge of the grounds and facilities for Ball State's 17 varsity sports said the university came to him to tell him about the move.

"It was a decision not made by the athletics department, but by the university," Quinn said.

Lovett said in 2010 all facilities will be brought to their new home field. The locker rooms for the team will be placed under Scheumann Stadium.

Lovett said he believes the field surface will be able to handle the team practicing and playing their games on it because of the well-preserved playing surface.

"Playing and practicing on the same field doesn't effect anything because out field has good turf," Lovett said.
