MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: MIVA adds new team to conference for 2010 season

The Ball State University men's volleyball team will have to travel about 2,000 miles to play a road match against the newest team in its conference.

The Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association announced Wednesday afternoon that Grand Canyon University will join the conference for the upcoming season.

Grand Canyon, a Division II team from Arizona, competed as independent last season in the program's inaugural season. The 'Lopes finished 4-25, including two losses against Ball State in March.

With Grand Canyon, the MIVA will have seven teams. The NCAA requirement for a conference to receive an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament is six teams.
