Delaware County Fair remains busy midway through event

New hog wrestling event most likely to grow in future fairs

Muncie residents still have a few days left to experience the thrills and culinary treats of the 157th annual Delaware County Fair.

Admission to the fair, which is sponsored by the Delaware County 4-H Club, is free.

Jane Lasater, president of the Delaware County Fair Board, said the fair doesn't have a theme other than community involvement.

"It's just a community activity and that's all it is every year," she said.

Lasater said organizing the fair this year didn't bring about any major setbacks, other than the weather.

"Whoever was in charge of the weather blew their assignment," she said.

This year's fair had a hog wrestling event for the first time. The event was Monday night, and Lasater said it was a success.

"That's an event we see will probably grow each year," she said.

Lisa Masterson came to the fair with her son, Mitchel, because her mother entered her embroidery in a competition.

"We come watch her and she's made grand champion reserve, so it's fun," Masterson said. "We're out here for the food too."

Zach Overfield, another fairgoer, shows sheep at the Whitley County Fair in Columbia City.

"I just hang out with friends and eat and ride the rides," he said.

Lasater said she is trying to revive the Delaware County Fair and win the title of top-rated county fair in the state.

"It's just taking a while to build things back up," she said. "We've got the right people in place to do that."
