Miss Ball State to compete in state pageant this week

A Ball State University student will be competing in the preliminaries of the Miss Indiana Scholarship Pageant this week.

Junior urban planning major Lauren Petersen was crowned as Miss Ball State 2009 earlier this year.

In preparation for the pageant, Petersen has trained with pageant director Carol Kosisko and with piano experts to help her with her talent routine.

Petersen's platform is the Make a Wish Foundation.

She is also involved with the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Park Hall Council and Park Hall Opening Committee.

Petersen's training will be put to the test beginning at the preliminary competition 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Zionsville Performing Arts Center. The preliminaries will continue at 7 p.m. Thursday at the same venue.

Petersen is one of 28 women competing in the preliminaries. If she advances to the finals, she will compete Saturday at 7 p.m. for the title of Miss Indiana.

Petersen would be the second Ball State student to be crowned Miss Indiana during recent years. Nicole Rash was the 2008 Miss America runner-up, Miss Indiana winner and 2007 Miss Ball State.
