Ball State receives more than $200,000 federal grant

Less than one week after upsetting school officials with his stance against earmarks for his district, U.S. Congressman Mike Pence had more positive news for Ball State University on Monday.

Pence announced Monday afternoon that Ball State was awarded a $210,520 grant by the Department of Health and Human Services for diabetes, endocrinology and metabolic research.

"This substantial grant award is a testament to the efforts of the faculty and staff as well as the national reputation of Ball State University in the area of scientific research," Pence stated in a press release.

The grant project - called "Neuroprotective effects of brain glycogen in hypoglycemia" - will be funded for three years beginning in late July.
