2 Ball State students ready to compete for Ms. Ohio title

Two Ball State University students will be competing in the Miss Ohio Scholarship Program.

Kristy Moneysmith, 19, and Ellen Bryan, 20, are two of 24 contestants competing for the state crown beginning tonight in Mansfield, Ohio.

Moneysmith won the title of Miss Mohican Valley earlier this year to qualify for Miss Ohio. Her platform is "Mentoring Through Leadership and Role Modeling" and she is a vocalist talent.

Bryan, a junior telecommunications major, claimed the Miss Lake Festival title and is also a vocalist talent. In addition, Bryan's platform is "When Thunder Roars, Go Indoors" to promote lightning awareness.

The preliminaries begin 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and the finals will be at 8 p.m. Saturday. If either contestant is named Miss Ohio, she will advance to the 2010 Miss America Pageant in Las Vegas.

Moneysmith and Bryan are two of three Ball State students competing in a statewide scholarship pageant this year. Lauren Petersen, who was crowned Miss Ball State in January, will participate in the Miss Indiana Scholarship Pageant next week.
