Sophomore public relations major Lauren Rumpler happened to walk between Bracken Library and the University Theater Wednesday night when she stumbled across a performance in the front windows of the library.
Rumpler stood and watched while silhouettes formed from trees to elevators that connected three different floors from the library.
"I think it is the neatest thing I've seen," she said. "I'm really impressed with the lighting on each floor."
Students from the architecture department and the Busted Spaces Theater company have been working since the beginning of the semester to perform a shadow box theater, using Bracken Library as their stage.
Greg Josken, a senior architecture major, said this project was a way to bond two disciplines in a creative way.
"I think it's really hard for students to work with other departments," he said. "So we wanted to create a project that got us out of the architecture building and got us working with other students."
Josken said one night we walked by the library, saw the study lounges and had the idea of setting them as a stage.
"This was a look at the re-use of a private study lounge into a public theater stage," he said. "And getting students to interact with the building in a different way."
Junior musical theater major Daniel Hurst is a member of Busted Spaces, a student theater company. He said after meeting several obstacles, like coordinating the choreography and finding right lights, the group felt satisfied with the results.
"It's been a lot of fun, and it's also been a little hard because sometimes you can get frustrated," he said. "But all in all, I think everyone is really happy with the product and I think it's gone well."
Rumpler said she will participate in Paint 4 Peace, which will take place in the same place of the performance.
"I'm really glad there will be an arts performance after the show," she said. "I think it will go well with the theme."
Performance will be about 9:30 p.m.
