Rock Paper Scissors raises $400

Greek Week event proceeds to benefit the Muncie Mission

Screams and chants reverberated through Ball Gymnasium Wednesday night as fraternity and sorority members cheered on their respective teams.

The first Rock Paper Scissors contest wrapped up the third day of Ball State University's Greek Week and raised money and canned goods for Muncie Mission Ministries Inc.

There were 18 teams each with 10 members from different sororities and fraternities who competed in a best of three elimination-style game, Alex Perdue, FIJI member and philanthropy chair for the Greek Week steering committee said.

Nearly 300 people watched the event, he said.

Each member paid a $2 entry fee which went to Muncie Missions, Perdue said.

The Greek Week steering committee raised about $400 for the event, Perdue said.

Rockstar provided drinks and WCRD 91.3 provided the soundtrack for the event.

Every sorority and fraternity was represented except for National PanHellenic Council sororities and fraternities, Perdue said.

Perdue came up with the event while playing Rock Paper Scissors with his friends for the front seat in a car, he said.

The winning team was Greek Week Team, a team put together minutes before the event began.

Randy Thomas, a Phi Delta Theta fraternity member of the Greek Week Team, said he enjoyed the event.

"It was amazing, I couldn't believe the turn out. Pretty good, pretty solid," Thomas said. "The team that I was on was put together at the last second and we took home the championship. It feels pretty good, pretty proud to be greek."

Perdue said he was impressed with the turnout and hoped a sorority or fraternity would pick up the event as a regular philanthropy event.
