The MITS bus routes and times could change for anyone wanting to get from Ball State University's campus to Wal-Mart or the Muncie Mall during the summer.
If Muncie approves the proposed changes, pick-up frequency for the Wal-Mart loop would decrease from once every 15 minutes to every 30 minutes. MITS would also shorten the route to its Saturday length, but the Riverside Avenue to Rural King route will also change to its Saturday route to compensate for the missed stops.
MITS would also change the bus routes heading to Muncie Mall. The bus company plans to cut its 7 p.m., 7:30 p.m., 8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. trips.
Mary Gaston, assistant general manager for MITS, said the bus company is changing the loops to save money during the summer. The loops are most heavily used by students from Ball State and Muncie schools, Gaston said, which causes ridership to drop once school is out for the year.
MITS will have public hearing at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and 8:30 a.m. April 9 before its board of directors decides whether to approve the change.
