The first punter of the 2009 NFL Draft was selected in the fifth round, opening the door for other punters such as Chris Miller of Ball State University.

The Cincinnati Bengals selected former University of Cincinnati punter Kevin Huber with the sixth pick of the fifth round. Huber averaged 44.95 yards per punt this past season for the Bearcats.

Miller averaged 43.5 yards per punt this season on 45 attempts for Ball State. He put the ball inside the 20 yard line 19 times and had five touchbacks to earn All-MAC Second Team honors.
