FOOTBALL: First MAC player gets picked in 2009 NFL Draft

The first Mid-American Conference player was selected in the 2009 NFL Draft today.

The San Diego Chargers selected defensive end Larry English from Northern Illinois University with the 16th pick in the first round.

English was the MAC's Defensive Player of the Year this past season. He tied for second in the MAC with 13.5 tackles for a loss and third in sacks with eight. English had five tackles and no sacks against Ball State this past season.

No Ball State University players have been selected yet although analysts such as Chris Stueber of Scout.com think four former Cardinals could be chosen in this weekend's Draft.
