BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The Ball State University women's basketball team's season ended tonight with a 71-57 loss to Iowa State University in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
The 12th-seeded Cardinals (26-9), who upset the No. 5 seed University of Tennessee Lady Vols 71-55 on Sunday to advance to tonight's game, were led by senior guard Porchia Green's 18 points. Freshman forward Jade Barber had 13 points and sophomore forward Emily Maggert added 12.
For Iowa State (26-8), senior forward/center Nicky Wieben had 18 points.
Iowa State advances to play No. 9 Michigan State University in the Sweet 16 on Saturday in Berkeley, Calif. The Spartans (22-10) upset No. 1 seed Duke University (27-6) 63-49 tonight to advance to the third round.
No. 3 Ohio State University and No. 2 Stanford University advanced to play each other in the other Sweet 16 matchup in Berkeley, and the winner of the Iowa State/Michigan State vs. Ohio State/Stanford game advances to the Elite Eight.
