WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Cards cruise by Miami in MAC Quarterfinal, will play Buffalo in semis

CLEVELAND - The Mid-American West Division West Division No. 1 seed Ball State University women's basketball team defeated Miami University 76-51 in today's MAC Quarterfinal matchup in Cleveland's Quicken Loans Arena.

The Cardinals (23-8, 14-2 MAC) shot 46.6 percent (27-for-58) from the field, 43.8 percent (7-for-16) from 3-point range and 93.8 percent (15-for-16) from the free throw line.

Sophomore Emily Maggert led all scorers with 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting. Two other Cardinals reached double-figures in scoring, as freshman guard Patrice King and junior forward Danielle Gratton added 12 points apiece.

Senior guard Kiley Jarrett played the role of distributer for Ball State, as she had eight points and a game-high nine assists. Senior guard Porchia Green had four points and a game-high nine rebounds.

For Miami (16-15, 7-9 MAC), the No. 4 seed in the East Division, senior forward Stephanie Ford had a team-high 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field with a team-high seven rebounds. Freshman forward Rachael Hencke added nine points for the RedHawks.

Miami's leading scorer this season, senior guard Jenna Schone, had seven points on 3-of-12 shooting, including 0-for-3 from 3-point range. She had 30 points in Tuesday night's 75-69 win against Eastern Michigan University in the MAC Tournament first round and 23 points Ball State's 81-66 win against Miami at Worthen Arena earlier this season. Ball State outrebounded Miami 40-37, but the RedHawks had 15 offensive rebounds that led to them outscoring the Cardinals 16-7 on second-chance opportunities. The RedHawks, however, had 17 turnovers to Ball State's 13. The Cardinals scored 23 points off turnovers to Miami's 10.

The Cardinals advance to play the University at Buffalo in Saturday's 2:30 p.m. semifinal. The Bulls (8-23, 2-14 MAC) upset East No. 2 seed Kent State University (19-10, 8-8 MAC) 66-54 during Friday's quarterfinals.
