Inbox clutter should be more manageable with the introduction of the Ball State University Communications Center Web site. University officials have been working since Spring 2008 to create a Web site and system that allows students to limit the university event information sent to their inboxes, said Gail Werner, News Center editor for University Marketing and Communications.
What is the new site? The Communications Center is a one-stop shop for all university events.
How does it work?A twice-weekly Ball State Digest will be sent out to summarize the announcements on the site.
Users will be able to manage what e-mails and RSS feeds send information to their inboxes.
Who can send information to the Communications Center site?Students, faculty and staff can publish information to the Web site.
What can I opt out of?Some of the groups students can choose to not receive e-mails from are academic colleges, arts, culture, entertainment, athletics, international and housing.
Can I opt out of all university e-mails?No. Blackboard, Gradebook and BSU@Work e-mails will still be sent regardless. Emergency and essential e-mails will still be sent to students, according to a press release.
What do students think about it?Sophomore Megan Jercha said the new Web site would free up room in her inbox for more important e-mails that relate to classes and assignments.
"There's always like 12 e-mails that I don't care about," she said. "You don't get a lot of space in your box."
