Ball State University men's basketball freshman center Jarrod Jones was announced today as the MAC Report Online Newcomer of the Year award winner - one day after receiving All-Mid-American Conference Honorable Mention honors and being named to the MAC All-Freshman team by the league office.
MAC Report Online also named Jones as its Midseason Newcomer of the Year earlier this season.
Jones opened up his career with 21 points and 12 rebounds in his first start of the season against Eastern Illinois University. He leads the team with 11 points and 7.4 rebounds-per-game averages, and earned MAC West Player of the Week recognition once this season.
Jones is also considered by many, including coach Billy Taylor, as the frontrunner for the MAC Freshman of the Year award, which will be announced on Wednesday according to Matt McCollester, Assistant Director of Athletics Media Relations for Ball State.
Ball State (13-16, 7-9 MAC) will enter play in the MAC Tournament on Thursday when they play the winner of the No. 7 Central Michigan University/No. 10 Eastern Michigan University game at noon in Cleveland's Quicken Loans Arena.
