MEN'S BASKETBALL: Cards advance to MAC semis with 64-61 overtime win over Central Michigan

CLEVELAND - The Ball State University men's basketball team defeated Central Michigan University 64-61 in overtime of today's Mid-American Conference quarterfinal matchup in Cleveland's Quicken Loans Arena.

The win advances Ball State (14-16, 7-9 MAC) to play in the semifinals against the winner of today's University at Buffalo/Kent State University matchup.

End of 2nd Half UpdateThe Ball State University men's basketball team will be playing its third overtime game in a row as the Cardinals are tied at 52 with Central Michigan University in today's Mid-American Conference Quarterfinal in Cleveland's Quicken Loans Arena.

Ball State lost to Western Michigan University and Eastern Michigan University in overtime over its last two games. A loss in this game, however, and its season is over.

Halftime UpdateThe Ball State University men's basketball team leads Central Michigan University 29-28 in today's Mid-American Conference Quarterfinal matchup in Cleveland's Quicken Loans Arena.

The No. 2 seed Cardinals (13-16, 7-9 MAC) received a bye into today's game due to their co-MAC West Championship with both Central Michigan and Western Michigan University. The Chippewas defeated Eastern Michigan University 62-49 in Tuesday's opening round.

Leading the way for Ball State is 2008-09 MAC Freshman of the Year Jarrod Jones with a game-high 10 points on 2-of-3 shooting from the field, including 6-for-6 from the free throw line. Senior guard Laron Frazier has eight points and a team-high tying three rebounds.

For No. 7 seed Central Michigan (12-18, 7-9 MAC), junior guard/forward Jacolby Hardiman has a team-high eight points and a game-high four rebounds. Sophomore guard Jeremy Allen has seven points and three rebounds.

The Cardinals are out-shooting the Chippewas 42.4 percent to 38.4 percent from the field, but Central Michigan's aggressiveness in the offensive paint has led to eight second-chance points. The Chippewas have 18 rebounds to the Cardinals' 15, including eight offensive rebounds.

The winner of today's matchup plays the winner of the No. 6 Kent State University/No. 3 University at Buffalo quarterfinal being played at 2:30 p.m.
