McKinley Mile ready to go

Race, bands at day of events; Doc's on Dill to have after party

The Office of Student Life is gearing up for the McKinley Mile bike race and day of events.

Graduate assistant Kristan Kanorr said the race wouldn't be divided by gender this year, but the men and women will still be judged separately. Doc's on Dill asked Ball State University's American Advertising Federation to plan and promote an unofficial McKinley Mile after party, Jeff Renoe, senior advertising major and AAF president, said.

The race is being held in conjunction with University Program Board's field day and the end of Greek Week events, Kanorr said.

Director of Student Life Linda Wiley said the office was not supporting any off-campus events.

"In no way are we affiliated, encouraging or condoning a pub crawl or after party in the Village," Wiley said. "We are focusing on the McKinley Mile and the field day put on by UPB."

Kanorr said the McKinley Mile events include large inflatables, a hot dog eating contest and DJDJ Chase Skiles. Papa John's pizza, snow cones, cotton candy and popcorn will be provided at University Green. Greek life brought in bands James Brown Car Alarm, Redlight Remedy and Dreams of University along with more inflatables and Rockstar Energy Drink representatives at Woodworth Lawn, Kanorr said.

The block of McKinley, Riverside, Neely and New York avenues will be closed from noon until 5 p.m. for the events, Kanorr said.

Saturday's events are open to anyone on campus, Kanorr said. Any student with questions can call the Student Life Office at 285-2621.

The race is 2 p.m. at April 4.
