Muncie girl scout troops will receive help selling their girl scout cookies from Kappa Delta sorority Tuesday and Thursday.
Members from Kappa Delta will set tables up from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Teacher's College Lobby, the Arts and Communication Building and the Business Building's first floor lounge, Lauren Schneider, Kappa Delta vice president of public relations said.
The women of Kappa Delta will also escort two troops down Riverside to sell cookies door-to-door to fraternity houses and other off campus residents.
Schneider said this was the first time this year the girl scouts visited the women of Kappa Delta.
The sorority adopted Girl Scouts USA as a national philanthropy in 1998 to offer mentoring and leadership development, Schneider said.
The girl scouts participated in Kappa Delta sponsored events such as: campus tours, self-esteem workshops, community service projects, badge earning activities and holiday parties, according to a Kappa Delta press release.
Research conducted by the Girl Scouts USA showed that 30 percent of preteen and teen girls prefer having college-aged women as advisors or group leaders. The girls polled felt closer to college women in age and related to them more as role models and related to personal insights about future options and choices.
"By providing the girl scouts an introduction of the campus and offering a chance to answer their questions, we hope to encourage girls from a variety of backgrounds to seek college education," Schneider said. "We want to help girls develop to their highest potential."
