A track and field runner from Indianapolis committed to Ball State University on Thursday, The Indianapolis Star reported Monday.
Pike High School runner Erica Campbell, the Cardinals' new commitment, finished third in the 200-meter dash in last year's state track meet with a time of 25.46 seconds, 1.28 seconds behind the event winner. She expects to train for the 100- and 200-meter dashes, along with the 400- and 600-meter relays at Ball State, according to The Indianapolis Star.
Ball State contacted Campbell in November, and she officially visited campus in December. Before committing to Ball State, the senior also considered the University of Cincinnati and Southern Illinois University, according to The Indianapolis Star.
Campbell was on the Pike High School honor roll during the last term with a grade point average between 3.0 and 3.9.
Ball State coach Randy Heisler could not be reached for comment.
The Ball State track and field team will participate in its one home meet of the season, the Ball State Quadrangular, beginning at 4 p.m. on Friday at the BSU Field Sports Building.
Mid-American Conference opponents Miami University, Northern Illinois University and Western Michigan University will compete against Ball State in the Ball State Quadrangular.
In the Cardinals' last home event, last year's Ball State University Triangular, they finished third out of three teams.
