The Ball State University track and field team tosses a pair of worn-in cleats and a heap of hope into its travel bags in preparation for the Mid-American Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships in Kent, Ohio.
Competing beside Ball State is Bowling Green State University, the University at Buffalo, Central Michigan University, Eastern Michigan University, Kent State University, Miami University, Northern Illinois University, Ohio University, the University of Toledo and Western Michigan University. For the past four years, Akron has seized the conference title.
The conference heat sheets are marked in red with four Ball State first place seeds.
Fifth-year senior Amber Williams is favored to be successful in the 60-meter dash from a time of 7.45 seconds during a previous indoor season meet. With her NCAA Provisional qualifying time of 8.29, Williams is the top seed for the 60-meter hurdles.
Teammate junior Katie Johnson also qualified with a NCAA provisional time of 8.42 to be seeded second for the Cardinals in the event.
Junior Ali Bishel is expected to finish well in the 3,000-meter race going off her 9:34.16 time from the season. Bishel is also seeded first for the 5,000-meter run with a 16:55.46 finish.
The 60-meter hurdle competitors will begin to warm up the track at 10:00 a.m. Friday. Saturday the competition will resume at 10:45 a.m. with 60-meter high hurdle finals. The MAC Conference Championship will close with the 4x400 meter relay at 4:20 p.m.
