The Ball State University men's tennis team had an opportunity to double its win total this weekend, and the Cardinals jumped at the chance.
Ball State improved from 2-2 to 4-2 after a pair of 7-0 victories against IUPUI (0-6) and the University of Detroit Mercy (1-4).
Every Cardinal on the roster saw action this weekend with the exception of sophomore Dave Thomas, who is injured. Sophomore Shaun Bussert returned from the knee injury he sustained two weeks ago to help the Cardinals.
Sophomore Edurado Pavia and senior Jose Perdomo alternated the top two singles spots for the matches. Perdomo defeated Detroit Mercy's No. 1 singles player, who won the Ball State Invitational back in October.
"It was a good win for him," coach Bill Richards said of Perdomo's victory. "Pavia and Perdomo played formidable opponents and had solid victories. Everyone else did fine and had no problems. It's nice to have a weekend like this where you can play everyone."
The Cardinals were able to experiment with their roster this weekend, playing different doubles and singles lineups.
Ball State will revert to a more fixed lineup for the two weeks as its takes on a couple of Big Ten Conference schools. Ball State is 0-2 against the Big Ten Conference this year. The Cardinals travel to Northwestern University on Sunday for an 11 a.m. start.
