A martial arts instructor will come to Ball State University to demonstrate Krav Maga, an Israeli form of self-defense that is practiced by soldiers of the Israeli Defense Force.
Etay Furman, a soldier who recently graduated from the IDF, is being hosted by the Ball State chapter of Hillel, a nationwide Jewish organization, and will be showing the basics of the fighting style to anyone willing to take part in the lesson.
"Krav Maga is a martial art that combines many different arts together and it's very straight to the point, I might say," Furman said.
Besides Krav Maga, Furman said he will also teach Capoeira, a Brazilian martial art that is a hybrid of dance and combat.
"[Capoeira] is pretty simple," Furman said. "Because it is half dance and half martial art, it can be very dangerous. Krav Maga is just combat. It is made up of kicks and punches and it can possibly be deadly."
Furman will teach the class along with another member of the IDF at 7 p.m. tonight in Irving Gym, room 200D.
