The Ball State University women's tennis team started its season out with a loss Saturday to the University of Dayton.
The Cardinals dropped the match 4-3 at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center despite wins in both No. 1 singles and doubles.
The No. 1 Ball State doubles team, Georgina Thomson and Dena Boulieris won 8-6 to give the Cardinals their lone victory in doubles. The No. 2 Cardinals' team, Sarah Hebble and Kylee Johnson lost 8-5 while the No. 3 Cardinals' team, Rachel Surowiec and Kimberley Robbins lost 8-4, to give the Flyers the doubles point.
Hebble won at No. 1 singles in three sets - 6-4, 6-7 (3), 10-7 - and Boulieris got another win at the No. 2 spot - 6-4, 6-0. Johnson also won at the No. 4 singles spot - 6-3, 6-1 - to give the Cardinals their third point.
Thomson lost at No. 3 singles for Ball State - 6-1, 6-4. The Cardinals also lost singles matches with Surowiec 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 and Robbins 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6.
